His name became famous in the media after his assassination in August 2017 at his home. When officers opened an investigation, they uncovered a heady cocktail of weed, business and suspected trespassers behind the homicide.
When news of the murder was shared, everyone was shattered, and later it became known that Lewis had been killed by her own husband, John Lewis.

2023 Nile Township Carla Lewis Murder Update
Nile Township Lady Carla Lewis was murdered in 2017, and the case is still catching the eye in 2023. On August 13, 2019, police responded to a distress call from her husband, John Lewis.
After the call, Berrien County Sheriff’s Investigators reached 1429 Lawndale Avenue in Nile Township around 6:00 p.m. Officers were shocked when they found Carla’s body lying face down in a room hidden behind a makeshift shelf in the basement.
Later, an autopsy report revealed that she had been shot five times. On the other hand, her husband went to the police station to give his version of the events leading up to the murder.
John told officers that his wife had visited his mother over the weekend and returned that Sunday afternoon. According to John, the duo chatted about their weekend activities before heading to the basement, where they grew some marijuana plants.
They were moving around and tending to the plants when John heard Carla scream and looked up to allegedly see at least two guys shooting at them. However, detectives did not believe John’s story.

Afterwards, Carla Lewis’ husband, John Lewis, said he never owned a gun or purchased a gun. During the interrogation, the a phone call from a man named Justin Hicks, who worked in construction at Lewis’s company.
Justin told officers that Lewis texted him around 1:53 p.m., asking him to come to his house. Similarly, the man claimed that John gave him the keys to the store and asked him to take ammo from his store, which Justin keeps in his car.
Upon learning of the incident, Justin handed the police eight boxes of Russian-made 9mm ammunition and a magazine for a 9mm pistol. Additionally, caliber ammunition with steel casings matched that recovered from the crime scene.
Because of this, John was linked to the murder of his wife. After gathering all the evidence, John was arrested and slapped on one count of first degree murder.

As previously reported, Carla Lewis’ murderer, John Lewis, was with one count of first degree murder. Likewise, he was sentenced to life without parole in March 2019.
So now John spends his time at the Carson City Correctional Institution. Additionally, John plans to appeal his sentence, but Carla’s family said they don’t believe the appeal will hold after he was found guilty by a 12-person jury.
