Tanya S. Chutkan serves as a District Judge for the District of Columbia in the United States. She was born in Jamaica and relocated to the United States. Judge Chutkan obtained her undergraduate degree from George Washington University and her law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

She has had a distinguished legal career, working as an associate at two prominent law firms and serving as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. Judge Chutkan was also a partner at the law firm of Boies Schiller Flexner LLP before becoming a federal judge.

On June 10, 2014, Judge Chutkan was nominated by President Barack Obama to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. She was confirmed by the Senate on January 29, 2015, and has since been serving as a federal judge.

As a federal judge, Tanya Chutkan has presided over numerous cases, including high-profile matters in the District of Columbia.

The criminal trial of former U.S. President Donald J. Trump, relating to the events leading up to January 6, 2021, United States Capitol attack, is being overseen by Judge Chutkan as of August 1, 2023.

Tanya Chutkan Husband: Meet Peter A. Krauthamer

Peter Arno Krauthamer had previously worked as an associate judge in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

In 1979, Krauthamer obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandeis University, followed by his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1982. He started his career as a staff attorney at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia and later became the deputy director in 2004. In this role, he managed a team of 220 employees, including 110 attorneys.

Krauthamer served as an assistant professor and clinical supervising attorney at Howard University School of Law from 1995 to 2000. He retired from his position on June 30, 2023.
