In a 90-second video posted online, the man can be seen running repeatedly towards residents of the charming alpine town of Annecy, injuring at least six people, including four children under the age of five who are now in critical condition.
Police later charged a 31-year-old Syrian citizen with legal asylum status in France with carrying out the attack, which President Emmanuel Macron called an “act of absolute cowardice.”
As piercing screams fill the air, the black-clad suspect runs out of the Le Paquiet Park playground as the video begins.

In the six-second video, a man fleeing through a park while being chased by bystanders is wearing black shorts and a sweatshirt. A cap is also on the man’s head. In the distance, there are screams.

In footage of the attack, the suspect can be seen running through the park before zeroing in on a baby in a stroller. A woman tries to stop him, but he steps aside and repeatedly stabs the boy.
Before being shot by police near the shores of Lake Annecy, witnesses reported that the suspected knife was wandering around in a frenzy, stabbing seemingly random people.
