Grace Ntombizodwa Mugabe is a Zimbabwean businessman, politician and widow of late President Robert Mugabe. She was Zimbabwe’s first lady from 1996 until her husband resigned in November 2017, a week after his ouster. Starting as secretary to President Mugabe, she joined the ranks of the ruling ZANU-PF party to become leader of the Women’s League and a key figure in the Generation 40 faction. At the same time, she is also known to enjoy privilege and luxury during the country’s economic crisis. She was kicked out of the party, along with other G40 members, during a coup in Zimbabwe in 2017. Mugabe was named one of the 100 most influential Africans in 2014 by New Africa magazine .
