Randy Meisner was a musician and songwriter best known as a founding member of the American rock band “The Eagles.” He was born on March 8, 1946, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, USA. Meisner played bass guitar and provided vocals for the band.

The Eagles owe a lot of their early success to Randy Meisner, as he was a key member of the original lineup alongside Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon. During the 1970s, The Eagles rose to prominence and went on to become one of the most legendary and accomplished rock bands of all time.

Meisner’s distinctive high-pitched vocals were showcased on many of the band’s early hits, including “Take It to the Limit” from their album “One of These Nights,” which he co-wrote. However, tensions and conflicts within the band led to his departure in 1977, after the release of the album “Hotel California.”

Following his departure from The Eagles, Randy Meisner embarked on a solo career but encountered personal challenges. He experienced numerous tragedies, including the loss of his spouse and, subsequently, the accidental passing of his child.

Meisner died due to complications associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Los Angeles, on July 26, 2023, at the age of 77.

On March 6, 2016, police responded to a 911 call made by a woman from the couple’s Studio City, California house asking for police assistance for a possibly intoxicated male suspect. Ninety minutes later, after police had left the scene, Lana Meisner accidentally shot and killed herself when a shotgun she was moving was struck by an object in its case and fired. Authorities determined that Meisner had no role in the shooting, as surveillance tapes showed he was in another part of the house at the time.

Following the accidental shooting, Meisner was placed under psychiatric hold after threatening suicide, due to previous threats and mental issues.

On April 1, 2016, CBS News published a comprehensive rundown of Meisner’s mental and caretaker issues.
